Sharna, who grew up in Luton and went to school there said “If you know Luton, specifically the LU4 areas, you’ll probably recognise some of the names and spaces referred to in my stories. Luton has had a massive impact on my life, and I am proud to be from Luton.”
Talking about her mystery genre, she went on to say “When I was growing up, all the mystery programmes and book plots revolved around posh white detectives and set in middle-class villages. I wanted to invert those traditional tropes of the mystery genre and put them in a new context of working-class black people from council estates and making mysteries in new ways”.
