Celebration of Storytelling to showcase stories written by local children
Five fascinating new short-stories have been created in a collaboration between local school children, young people, young people’s services, Luton creatives and nationally renowned authors in the Luton Literature Storytelling Project.
These stories will be brought to life through exclusive readings performed by Luton Actors Adeyinka Akinrinade and Aaron Spendelow on Saturday 11 May in two sessions (11am and 1.15pm) at the Hat Factory Arts Centre in Luton.
Free tickets are available by booking today through our Celebration of Storytelling page.
The authors we collaborated with include
- Joseph Elliott – author of the Shadow Skye trilogy, actor (Horrible Histories – BBC), writer and comedian
- Jen Carney – Children’s author-illustrator, known for The Day my Dog got Famous and The Accidental Diary of B.U.G
- Helen Rutter – Children’s author, known for The Boy Who Made Everyone Laugh and Reggie Houser Has the Power
- Laura Noakes – Bedfordshire Children’s author of historical hijinks and heist stories featuring Cosima Unfortunate
- Jo Cotterill – Writer for children and young adults, and author of A Storm of Strawberries and Jelly
Mariana Brown, Director of Luton Literature CIC, said “I’d encourage anyone who loves stories to attend this event, which showcases and celebrates what can be achieved when you provide a way to be as creative and imaginative as possible, with few limits.
“Incredible local children and young people have allowed themselves to open up, use their imaginations and embrace the challenge of creating a story in their groups, working together and bouncing ideas off each other and their amazing workshop leaders. The nationally renowned authors have then fine-tuned these stories into the wonderful outputs that our own Luton actors will perform readings on 11 May. It is truly wonderful to have been able to see these stories develop over the last few months.”
The Luton Literature Storytelling Project was funded by Arts Council England and Luton Rising.
